Jiangsu Teachers University of Technology was founded in 1984, which is the only provincial undergraduate teacher's university of technology affiliated to the provincial Department of Education, and whose main task is to cultivate vocational teachers. It became a Bachelor's degree granting school in 1992 and is one of the first schools to be approved for National Key Construction Base of Teacher Training for Professional Education by the Ministry of Education in 1999.
The University campus sits on about 1,440 mu, and has nearly 400,000 square meters of available classroom space. The University has altogether 13,405 full-time students, over 1,100 staff members and 718 full-time teachers, including 310 teachers who hold middle or senior titles, 81 teachers with doctorate degrees, 349 teachers with masters' degrees, 40 teachers that are in the process of earning a Ph.D.
At present, the University has 15 departments or schools: School of Mechanical Engineering (School of Automobile Engineering), School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Electrical and Information Engineering, School of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Education, School of Economics and Management, School of Accounting, Art and Design College (Animation School), School of Foreign Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences College, School of Mathematics and Physics, Sino- German International School, Sports Department, etc. It has 37 undergraduate majors including design and manufacture of machinery and automation, chemical engineering and technology, education, electronics information engineering, computer science and technology, art and design, applied chemistry, accounting, and so on, which cover 7 disciplines of engineering, pedagogy, management, economics, mathematics, liberal arts and law.
The University has built a good relationship of exchange and cooperation with a lot of colleges and professional technical training institutions from Germany, Canada, The United States, Ukraine, Korea, Norway and so on. In addition, it has joined hands with Merseburg University of Applied Science in Germany in educational pattern of “two plus two”, (i.e. students will spend two years studying at JSTU and the next two years in Germany,) cooperated with German F+U Group Saxony Institute of Vocational Training to build Sino-German Know-How Automobile Training Base, connected with German automotive industry and vocational training, cultivated car maintenance professional teachers and high-end car maintenance and technical talents to meet the great need of our national vocational education, and cooperated with Norway and Germany to educate Masters degree candidates.
